DESIRE SPIRITUAL GROWTH.
“The level of your growth in God is directly proportional to your knowledge and application of His Word.” – Sunnypraiz.
Spiritual growth is not accidental; it is intentional. No believer can rise above the level of his or her understanding of God’s Word. The depth of your relationship with God, the strength of your faith, and the maturity of your Christian walk are all influenced by how much of His Word you know, believe, and obey.
The Scriptures reveal that God’s Word is the primary instrument for spiritual development. Just as physical food nourishes the body, the Word of God nourishes the spirit. A believer who neglects the Word will remain spiritually weak, vulnerable, and immature, regardless of how long he or she has been in the faith.
Your knowledge of God is also determined by the intensity of your hunger for Him. God does not hide Himself from those who genuinely seek Him. He declared, “You will seek Me and find Me when you seek Me with all your heart” (Jeremiah 29:13). The more you pursue God, the more He reveals Himself to you. Likewise, James 4:8 says, “Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you.” There is a divine response to sincere spiritual pursuit. When you take steps towards God, He meets you with His presence, wisdom, and grace.
The Apostle Paul rebuked the Corinthian believers because they remained spiritually immature despite their exposure to the gospel. He wrote:
“I fed you with milk and not with solid food; for until now you were not able to receive it, and even now you are still not able” (1 Corinthians 3:2-3).
Their continued carnality, jealousy, and divisions revealed that they had not grown beyond the elementary stage of spiritual development. They had access to spiritual truth, yet they failed to mature.
Similarly, the writer of Hebrews expressed disappointment with believers who should have become teachers but were still dependent on basic teachings:
“For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the first principles of the oracles of God…” (Hebrews 5:12).
This passage reminds us that spiritual maturity is expected. God desires every believer to progress from infancy to maturity, from dependence to discipleship, and from learning to teaching others.
The Apostle Peter provides the key to such growth:
“Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation” (1 Peter 2:2).
Notice that growth is connected to desire. The believer must cultivate a strong appetite for God’s Word. A healthy spiritual appetite produces healthy spiritual growth. Those who hunger for God will continually seek His presence, study His Word, spend time in prayer, and live in obedience to His commands.
Many Christians desire spiritual power, but few cultivate spiritual hunger. Growth does not come through wishful thinking; it comes through consistent feeding on God’s Word and maintaining fellowship with Him. The more you know His Word, the more you know His character. The more you know His character, the more you trust Him. The more you trust Him, the stronger and more mature you become.
Do not remain spiritually stunted. Refuse to be satisfied with spiritual infancy. Develop an insatiable hunger for God and His Word. Seek Him diligently, draw near to Him continually, and allow His truth to transform your life daily. As your appetite for God increases, so will your understanding, maturity, and effectiveness in His Kingdom.
Prayer:
Father, create in me a deeper hunger for Your presence and Your Word. Help me to grow beyond spiritual infancy into maturity. Let my life continually reflect the knowledge, wisdom, and character of Christ. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
