PRAY UNTIL SOMETHING HAPPENS
The Power of Consistent Prayer
Prayer is not merely a religious activity; it is the lifeline of every believer. It is the channel through which humanity communicates with God and receives divine direction, strength, wisdom, and intervention. Many believers pray occasionally, but few develop the discipline of consistent and persistent prayer. Yet throughout Scripture, the men and women who experienced extraordinary manifestations of God’s power were people who refused to stop praying until heaven responded.
Jesus Himself emphasized the necessity of consistency in prayer when He said:
“Men ought always to pray, and not to faint.” Luke 18:1
Prayer is not an event; it is a lifestyle. It is not something believers do only when trouble comes. It is a continuous relationship with God that strengthens faith and positions the believer for victory.
What Does It Mean to Pray Until Something Happens?
“Pray Until Something Happens” is often abbreviated as P.U.S.H. It speaks of persistence, endurance, and unwavering faith in the place of prayer.
It means:
- Refusing to give up when answers seem delayed.
- Continuing to seek God despite challenges.
- Holding on to God’s promises until they become reality.
- Remaining steadfast in faith when circumstances appear unchanged.
Many people stop praying just before their breakthrough arrives. They become discouraged by delays, opposition, or apparent silence from heaven. However, God’s delays are not God’s denials.
The Example of Elijah
One of the greatest examples of persistent prayer is found in the life of Elijah. After declaring that rain would return to Israel following years of drought, Elijah did not simply announce the prophecy and go to sleep. He climbed Mount Carmel and began to pray earnestly.
His servant checked the sky six times and saw nothing. Many people would have stopped after the first attempt. Others might have quit after the third or fourth attempt. Yet Elijah continued praying. On the seventh time, a small cloud appeared.
“And it came to pass at the seventh time, that he said, Behold, there ariseth a little cloud out of the sea…” 1 Kings 18:44
The rain did not come because Elijah prayed once. It came because he prayed persistently until the answer manifested.
The Example of Daniel
Daniel prayed and fasted for twenty-one days seeking understanding from God. Unknown to him, his answer had been released from the first day. Yet spiritual opposition delayed the manifestation.
“Fear not, Daniel: for from the first day that thou didst set thine heart to understand… thy words were heard.” Daniel 10:12
Had Daniel stopped praying on the tenth day or fifteenth day, he might never have witnessed the breakthrough. His persistence secured the manifestation of what heaven had already released.
Why Consistency in Prayer Matters
1. Prayer Builds Spiritual Strength
Just as physical exercise develops muscles, prayer develops spiritual stamina. Every moment spent in God’s presence strengthens the inner man. The more consistently you pray, the more sensitive you become to the voice of the Holy Spirit.
2. Prayer Deepens Your Relationship with God
Relationships grow through communication. A believer who prays regularly develops intimacy with God. Prayer moves beyond asking for things and becomes fellowship with the Father.
3. Prayer Overcomes Opposition
Many blessings are delayed by spiritual resistance. Persistent prayer enforces God’s will and dismantles barriers standing between the believer and divine promises.
4. Prayer Increases Faith
Faith grows when believers continually engage God. Every answered prayer becomes evidence that God is faithful. The more you pray, the more confidence you gain in His ability to answer.
5. Prayer Positions You for Divine Direction
Many mistakes are avoided when believers spend time consistently seeking God. Prayer sharpens spiritual discernment and helps believers recognise God’s leading.
Why People Stop Praying
Many believers struggle with consistency because of:
- Discouragement
- Delayed answers
- Spiritual laziness
- Doubt and unbelief
- Worldly distractions
- Lack of understanding about the power of prayer
Satan understands the power available to praying believers. Therefore, one of his major strategies is to make people weary in prayer.
Jesus’ Teaching on Persistence
Jesus shared the parable of the persistent widow in Luke 18. The widow continually approached an unjust judge until her request was granted.
Jesus concluded:
“Shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him?” Luke 18:7
If persistence can move an unjust judge, how much more will it move a loving Heavenly Father?
Pray Through Until Victory Comes
There are seasons when prayer feels effortless and seasons when it feels difficult. There are times when answers come quickly and times when they seem delayed. Regardless of the season, believers must remain steadfast.
Pray when you feel strong.
Pray when you feel weak.
Pray when doors open.
Pray when doors close.
Pray when answers come.
Pray when answers seem delayed.
Keep knocking.
Keep seeking.
Keep asking.
The breakthrough often comes to those who refuse to quit.
The Greatest Reward of Persistent Prayer
The greatest blessing of prayer is not merely receiving answers. It is becoming transformed in God’s presence. Consistent prayer changes circumstances, but it also changes the person praying. The more time spent with God, the more His character, wisdom, love, and power become evident in a believer’s life.
Prayer is not a spare tyre to be used only during emergencies; it is the steering wheel that directs life. Every great revival, every mighty move of God, every spiritual awakening, and every lasting victory has been birthed through persistent prayer.
Do not allow delays to discourage you.
Do not allow silence to weaken your faith.
Do not allow obstacles to stop your pursuit of God.
Keep praying.
Keep believing.
Keep trusting.
Pray until something happens. Then keep praying until God’s purpose is fulfilled.
“Pray without ceasing.” 1 Thessalonians 5:17.
